What is TRANSABE-EDU?
The TRANSABE-EDU project is a collaborative educational initiative between the UK and Egypt, aimed at transcending the frontiers of architecture and the built environment education through a transdisciplinary master's programme. Addressing the evolving demands of global higher education, this initiative seeks to overcome the limitations of local programmes in Egypt, such as limited resources, language barriers, and a lack of exposure to diverse global perspectives. By fostering UK-Egypt collaboration, the project aims to tackle global challenges like sustainability, urbanization, technology, cultural preservation, resilience, and community engagement. It champions a teaching model that transcends disciplinary boundaries by integrating insights from diverse fields, promoting collaboration, and encouraging holistic solutions.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of the project is to develop a teaching and collaboration model alongside a specialised MSc suite to enhance UK and Egyptian qualifications in architecture and the built environment. Galala University plays a pivotal role in this initiative, with plans to launch cutting-edge MSc and PhD programmes by 2025. The project's objectives include developing an inclusive teaching model aligned with UK and Egyptian qualification frameworks, creating specialised MSc programmes, fostering ongoing collaboration, integrating virtual learning, and designing a sustainable partnership model.
METHODOLOGY
The methodology involves four phases: Research and Benchmarking, Review and Confirm Needs Definition, Model Design, Content Development, and Integration, followed by Project Finalisation and Conclusion. Immediate outcomes include the development of a transdisciplinary teaching model and the initiation of pilot MSc programmes with specialisations in areas such as Health Design, Sustainable Urbanism, Global Urban Futures, and Heritage Conservation.
In the medium to long term, the project aims to implement the specialised MSc suite, advance professional practice competencies, and foster sustainable international collaborations. The initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Quality Education and Partnerships for the Goals, while benefiting the UK through strengthened global collaborations, enriched research culture, enhanced leadership in postgraduate education, and diverse learning opportunities for students.
